Killing Procrastination

Completing one idea every week for a year

Episode 8 – Gopro toast watcher

Cold toast is the worst! I put bread in the machine to be toasted, go off to get things done and forget about the toast. The butter never melts and whatever you put on top of it just turns into a weird paste. I’ve had the idea of a toast watcher to help solve this problem for a while. Watch below to see how it turned out….

Episode #7 – Interesting stuff for mum.com

I often have conversations with my Mum about ideas, and tech. After the conversations, I leave saying I’ll send you the link with of the article we were talking about. More often than not I’ll forget to send the link and the conversation becomes a bit pointless. To avoid this problem I’ve often thought about making a website or online space where I can place how to’s, tech and ideas for Mum to access when it suits her.

So, I made www.interestingstuffformum.com. Check it out 🙂

Episode #6 – How to recycle old wetsuit into a fin case

My surfboard fins live in numerous places around the house, shed and car. As a result, I constantly lose them which renders the set useless. To prevent this situation from occurring, I created a fin case made from the wetsuit I recycled in week 1 to make the laptop case. That way I solved my problem of surfboard fin storage and reusing a material rather than going to landfill.

A LEARNING FROM THIS WEEK.

The other element to this week was the learnings I had around repeating the successful week prior of donating food and cake to people living on the streets. I had a feeling this might occur somewhere during Killing Procrastination so It’s been interesting to ensure I stay on track with the ideas I want to accomplish rather ideas that will be interesting for others.

Episode #5 – Giving rainbow cake and lunch to the homeless

For about 5 years I’ve wanted to do more than just donate to charities. I wanted t personally do something which could have a positive impact. Killing Procrastination was the impetus to get my butt into gear and actually do it. I figured the idea of the rainbow layer cake could also be a great way to add a bit of fun in their day.

Episode #4 – How to make a rainbow layer cake

I’m not entirely sure why I wanted to make a rainbow layer cake but it’s been bugging me for 12 months. 2 hours and 2 separate days later I got there. Stacks of fun and tastes epic!  If you give it a crack here’s the recipe.

Episode #3 – Recycle broken surfboard

How to recycle a broken surfboard

My board broke, I wanted to recycle the broken surfboard as it often it’s thrown in the bin and ends up underground as landfill. The problem is it doesn’t breakdown and is made from toxic chemicals.  Instead of throwing it away I decided to recycle it into a body surfing hand plane.

It’s a fairly crude design and not exactly high performance however it works just fine and was STACKS of fun 🙂

Episode #2 – Surfing Iceland

When I was around 16 I watched a surf video edited by Jon Frank. It was cold, dark and to be honest quite miserable looking. However I was hooked, I knew I wanted to visit the place.  This place being Iceland.

Over the years I watched guys like Ted Grambeau and Chris Burkard popularise the place. When Killing Procrastination began as an idea I knew this was going to be up there as my top ‘to-dos’ so I packed my stuff and figured…do it and do it now.

Episode #1 – Recycle wetsuit into laptop case

I bought a new laptop and needed a case for it, pretty quickly I realised they were either expensive or were made of materials that are lying around at home. I gathered my old wetsuit collection and recycled one of them into a laptop case. It saved me some money and means I’m not buying more neoprene which is nasty stuff for the planet.
